An Operating System is the software that interacts with the hardware of a PC and functions as the intermediary between applications and the hardware, which includes peripherals such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it sends requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the contact is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Identical to a personal computer, hosting servers also have an Operating System which acts as a host for the software installed on them, which includes script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be set up on a physical one, so you can install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We provide as many as three different Linux releases for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the most stable and reliable OSs you can find and we offer all 3 instead of only 1 since we realize that you may want to set up some software which has specific requirements with regards to the Operating System it shall run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a large support community behind it and there are different software applications you could install on the web hosting server. Your OS selection will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS if you wish to use one and that's why we offer several Control Panels as well. In the event you decide that you want another OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the current one and install the one that you'd like. In addition, we offer an optional service to keep the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
If you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the registration page because we want to give you a wider choice regarding the system environment on your server as different applications may have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian contain different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a reliable and secure web hosting service. Based on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you've selected at first doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you want to run. We can also upgrade the OS regularly in order to keep it as risk-free as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
